BMW has developed a new traction control system for its i3s electric car β 50 times faster than before β that will be employed in all future BMW and Mini models.
The system, which is calculated directly in the powertrain instead of in a remote unit requiring long signal paths, improves traction and driving stability in adverse weather and road conditions during acceleration, in active Brake Energy Regeneration phases and also when coming out out of tight corners.
Aimed directly at the demands of electric mobility, but also applicable to conventional vehicles, the new control system optimises traction, driving stability and driving dynamics.
So it will be fitted in BMW and Minis with front-, rear- and all-wheel drive to deliver βnoticeably greater assurance and driving pleasure when road conditions make pulling away difficult.β
Its latest i3s has been beefed up a bit too: 135kW/270Nm, combined power consumption on the Euro test cycle of 14.3 kWh/100 km and emissions of . . . zero.
