Jenny brings us a review of the Toyota Camry in the bottom spec Ascent Sedan trim. Toyota’s Camry is one of the best-sold sedans in the world. In past years the Camry was manufactured in Australia. But now that the Australian automotive manufacturing industry no longer exists, this new 2018 Camry comes from Japan.

This new Camry has an all-new design that is a little more interesting and striking than previous years. The Camry is still a mid-size sedan, but more than 40 mm longer with a 50 mm longer wheelbase.

The Camry we reviewed had a 2.5 litre 4-pot petrol with 131 kW of power and 221 Nm of torque. But there is also a 3.5 V6 paired with an 8-speed automatic with 224 kW as well as a Hybrid option.

In terms of safety the base model Ascent gets 7 airbags, AEB, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, reversing camera with moving guidelines, pre-collision safety system, automatic high beam, hill-start assist, vehicle stability control and similar so it scores an easy 5-star ANCAP rating. Higher trim levels also get more safety features such as blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.

How will the new Toyota Camry fair against the likes of the Honda Accord, Volkswagen Passat, and Hyundai Sonata?
