What is it?
The UX is Lexus's smallest SUV, a TNGA-based compact built for buyers stepping out of a premium hatch into something slightly higher off the ground. Two electrified powertrains, no petrol-only option. The UX 250h hybrid runs FWD or AWD with a 4.5 L/100 km combined claim. The UX 300e EV uses a 72.8 kWh battery for around 450 km of WLTP range.
The lineup runs from UX 250h Luxury 2WD at $61,790 plus on-roads, through to UX 300e Luxury at $82,500 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 5 years, unlimited km.
Interior and Technology
UX 250h returns 4.5 L/100 km combined, and real-world economy is often better. 5-year warranty plus 10 years on the hybrid battery. Lexus Encore valet, loan car and dining perks across both powertrains. UX 300e EV offers 450 km WLTP with no PHEV compromise.
Rear seat and boot tight versus BMW X1 and Audi Q3. UX 300e EV uses a 50 kW DC charge peak, slow by current standards. Hybrid CVT drone under load is still the UX's biggest acoustic flaw. 146 kW power figure is modest for a $60,000-plus SUV.
Should you buy the UX?

- UX 250h returns 4.5 L/100 km combined, and real-world economy is often better. 5-year warranty plus 10 years on the hybrid battery. Lexus Encore valet, loan car and dining perks across both powertrains. UX 300e EV offers 450 km WLTP with no PHEV compromise.

Reasons to wait
- Rear seat and boot tight versus BMW X1 and Audi Q3. UX 300e EV uses a 50 kW DC charge peak, slow by current standards. Hybrid CVT drone under load is still the UX's biggest acoustic flaw. 146 kW power figure is modest for a $60,000-plus SUV.
- You carry rear passengers regularly (BMW X1 and Audi Q3 are roomier), you want fast DC charging on the EV (the 300e tops out at 50 kW), or you want more power for the money.
- The 250h is the smart pick for most buyers. The 300e EV is a tougher sell with 50 kW peak charging while the rest of the segment moves past 150 kW. Cross-shop the X1 if rear-seat space matters.
- Top trim climbs to $82,500 plus on-roads.
