What is it?
The Formentor is Cupra's first standalone model, a medium coupe-SUV built on the MQB Evo platform shared with the Golf, Tiguan and Audi Q3. Four powertrains spanning a 140 kW V to a 245 kW VZx, plus a VZ e-Hybrid PHEV.
The lineup runs from V 2.0 TSI at $51,990 plus on-roads, through to VZx 2.0 TSI AWD at $66,990 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 5 years, unlimited km.
Interior and Technology
Golf R hardware in a sharper, more distinctive coupe-SUV body. The VZx is properly fast (0 to 100 in 4.9 seconds) and the CUP Bucket seats are best in class.
5-year warranty trails the Korean 7-year norm, and the Cupra dealer footprint is still small (mostly co-located with VW).
Should you buy the Formentor?
Reasons to buy
- Golf R hardware in a sharper, more distinctive coupe-SUV body. The VZx is properly fast (0 to 100 in 4.9 seconds) and the CUP Bucket seats are best in class.
- Warranty: 5 years, unlimited km.
- 5-star ANCAP (2021), full driver-assist suite.
- 420 L boot, segment-competitive cargo space.
Reasons to wait
- 5-year warranty trails the Korean 7-year norm, and the Cupra dealer footprint is still small (mostly co-located with VW).
- You want a longer warranty (Korean rivals at 7 years), a bigger boot on the PHEV (the e-Hybrid drops to 345 L), or a more established dealer footprint.
- e-Hybrid boot shrinks from 420 L to about 345 L. Test fit a stroller or weekly shop if the PHEV is on the shortlist.
- Top trim climbs to $66,990 plus on-roads.
