What is it?
The Atto 2 is BYD's new entry into the small electric SUV class for Australia, sitting between the Dolphin hatch and the larger Atto 3. It rides on the e-Platform 3.0 with the BYD Blade LFP battery in two sizes: 45 kWh good for around 312 km WLTP, and 64 kWh good for around 430 km WLTP. Both grades use a single front-mounted motor rated at 130 kW and 290 Nm. There is no AWD option. Two grades on offer, Essential from $33,990 plus on-roads and Premium from $39,990 plus on-roads, both with V2L at 6 kW.
The lineup runs from Essential 45 kWh at $33,990 plus on-roads, through to Premium 64 kWh at $39,990 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 6 years, 150,000 km (vehicle).

Reasons to buy

Reasons to wait
- FWD only, no AWD option for buyers who tow or want traction. DC peak of 65 to 85 kW is mid-pack, well behind 800V rivals. Standard Range 312 km WLTP tight for regular highway running. ANCAP rating not yet finalised for the Australian model (carries 5-star Euro NCAP late 2025).
- You tow, you need AWD, or you want 800V fast charging (Kia EV3, Hyundai Inster Cross, Xpeng G6). If you mostly want a hatch body, the BYD Dolphin undercuts the Atto 2 by $4,000.
- Pick the Premium 64 kWh if you do any highway running, the Essential 45 kWh if your driving is genuinely urban. Confirm ANCAP status with your local BYD store at delivery, the Australian rating is pending.
- Top trim climbs to $39,990 plus on-roads.
