Should you buy the Solterra?

Reasons to buy

  • Symmetrical AWD dual motor across the range, no FWD compromise. 485 km WLTP range from the larger MY26 battery. DC charge rate now 150 kW peak, 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes. X-Mode off-road system with EV-specific calibration.
  • Warranty: 5 years, unlimited km (8 years, 160,000 km battery).
  • 5-star ANCAP, full driver-assist suite.
  • 441 L (1,541 L folded) boot, segment-competitive cargo space.
  • Braked towing rated at 750 kg.

Reasons to wait

  • Towing capped at 750 kg braked, well below Tesla Model Y at 1,600 kg. No frunk, despite the EV-only platform. Pricing climbs above Model Y RWD on the Touring grade. Cabin material quality trails Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.
  • You tow more than 750 kg braked (Tesla Model Y is rated to 1,600 kg), you want 800V architecture for faster DC charging (Hyundai Ioniq 5), or you want a frunk (the Solterra still does not have one).
  • For Subaru loyalists who want an electric SUV with X-Mode and AWD as standard, this is the easiest brand-faithful choice on sale in Australia. Touring is worth the extra for the audio and roof if budget allows.
  • Top trim climbs to $76,990 plus on-roads.
