What is it?
Subaru renamed the XV to Crosstrek for the third generation. It is still the small-SUV-with-real-AWD pitch: 2.0L naturally aspirated boxer, Symmetrical AWD as standard, 220 mm of ground clearance, and X-Mode for snow, dirt and mud.
The lineup runs from L AWD at $34,990 plus on-roads, through to Hybrid AWD at $43,690 plus on-roads. Warranty cover sits at 5 years, unlimited km.

- You want a serious hybrid drivetrain (Corolla Cross HEV), the cheapest segment entry (MG ZS), or a larger boot than 315 litres (Kia Seltos).
- The e-Boxer Hybrid is a mild hybrid assist, not a fuel revolution. If hybrid efficiency is the priority, a Corolla Cross HEV does it cheaper and harder.
- Top trim climbs to $43,690 plus on-roads.
