What is it?

The third-generation HR-V is Honda's small SUV with a softer, more SUV-shaped body than the outgoing coupe-styled car. Three grades, two powertrains (1.5L petrol or 1.5L e:HEV hybrid), all FWD, sold on fixed national drive-away pricing. Magic Seats remain the cabin's headline feature.

The lineup runs from Vi X 1.5 Petrol at $34,900 drive-away, through to e:HEV X at $47,900 drive-away. Warranty cover sits at 5 years, unlimited km.

Interior and Technology

Magic Seats flip up cinema-style to swallow tall items like bikes or pot plants, and fold flat for 1,289 L of cargo. e:HEV returns 4.3 L/100 km combined. Fixed drive-away pricing means no haggling, and capped servicing is $199 per service for 5 years.

4-star ANCAP against the 2022 protocol, half a star behind most rivals. No AWD option. e:HEV X at $47,900 drive-away overlaps with mid-spec Toyota C-HR. Wired-only Android Auto while CarPlay is wireless.

Should you buy the HR-V?

Reasons to buy

  • Magic Seats flip up cinema-style to swallow tall items like bikes or pot plants, and fold flat for 1,289 L of cargo. e:HEV returns 4.3 L/100 km combined. Fixed drive-away pricing means no haggling, and capped servicing is $199 per service for 5 years.
  • Warranty: 5 years, unlimited km.
  • 4-star ANCAP (2022), full driver-assist suite.
  • 304 L boot, segment-competitive cargo space.
  • Braked towing rated at 750 kg.

Reasons to wait

  • 4-star ANCAP against the 2022 protocol, half a star behind most rivals. No AWD option. e:HEV X at $47,900 drive-away overlaps with mid-spec Toyota C-HR. Wired-only Android Auto while CarPlay is wireless.
  • You want all-wheel drive (Toyota Yaris Cross AWD), a cheaper hybrid entry (Yaris Cross Hybrid from $28,990), or a bigger boot (Hyundai Kona at similar money).
  • e:HEV L at $43,900 drive-away is the value sweet spot. The e:HEV X premium for leather, sunroof and 360 cam is steep against a Toyota C-HR Hybrid.
  • Top trim climbs to $47,900 drive-away.
