In this video, Jenny reviews the 2019 Mazda CX-3 in the near top of the line Akari trim with AWD.

The design is different from the earlier generation. Itโ€™s a bit sharper and, they improved on the few bad points the original CX-3 had, but in many ways, itโ€™s still very similar to the original one.

Two engines are available for the Mazda CX-3 including a 2-litre SKYACTIV-G petrol engine with 110 kW and 195 Nm of torque and a 1.8 l SKYACTIV-D turbo diesel. It produces 85 kW of power and 270 Nm of torque from as low as 1,600 revs.

The Drive

The petrol is naturally aspirated, which means that the top power and torque figures come higher in the rev range. For the top power you have to rev it past 6,000. However, being a product of SKYACTIV tech, the naturally aspirated 2.0โ€™s top torque from 2,800 is actually pretty good.
Mazda does a great job with safety and the small CX-3 has all the bells and whistles you would expect from a car of this class and size. Just some of the safety features include hill launch assist, G-Vectoring Control, LED DRLs, tail lamps and headlights, cruise control, keyless entry and start, ABS, blind spot monitoring, driver attention alert, dynamic stability control, EBD, emergency brake assist, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross traffic alert, rearview camera, smart city break support, traction control and traffic sign recognition.

The top trim level Akari with an automatic gearbox also gets radar cruise control with stop and go as standard. More Akari dedicated features include a head-upโ€‹ display, 360 camera, adaptive LED headlamps, โ€‹and lane departure warning.

With the latest updates to the CX-3 Mazda have done just enough to keep it relevant in theโ€‹โ€‹ subcompactโ€‹ SUV market in Australia.
